This includes a description of a day in the life of a driver, the customs and natural scenery of the countries the Dakar caravan passes through, details of the rally cars, and information about who does what. Any question is fine, as long as it pertains to the Dakar Rally or the Nissan Rally Raid Team. I will walk around the bivouacs seeking answers to your questions from drivers and staff.

Thank you for your many questions.
PART3
Hi! I just finished my highschool in germany and am about to start studying mechanical engineering.
What do I have to do to end up being an engineer in a rallye racing team like NISSAN - without having personal contacts to people who work in the motorsport businnes?
How does the History of YOUR engineers look like?
When was THEIR first encounter with motorsport and how did they get there?
I would be thankful for any response!
Good luck for dakar04, Nick

The history of our engineers vary. But they all loved racing from when they were young and were actually involved in racing themselves at the amatuer level. Most of them have an Engineering Degree also. You get these jobs by knowing people so it would be the most direct route for you to start participating in amatuer racing and getting to meet people. I think the S. African Teams can do great at Dakar. Actually, there is 18 of us from S. Africa for this Dakar Rally so you may be able to say that we are a S. African Team.

There are no plans to the race cars in 1/18 scale. However, the 2003 race cars are available in 1/43 scale and the 2004 race cars should be available soon. James

The best place to start is amatuer racing. You can start with go-karts or enter into a gymkana type event with your own car. As your skills improve, you step up to the next category. James
